It could work for mixed TL or postapocalyptic settings though, if the organisms already exist, and only the holdingplaces need to be built.
Another thought regarding postapocalyptics -- even in scenarios like Mad Max or Waterworld, the old biosphere didn't disappear completely. It would be really useful if one could provide most of the food from a mostly closed system, to reduce the need for scavenging/resupply. Also, a citrus tree in the greenhouse to prevent scurvy.
So the result would be a vehicle with very spartan quarters and total life support. These are survivors, not highly paid professionals. 1,200 lbs. and 200 cf for a bunk and life support at TL8.
It remains a problem how such a vehicle can be built in a postapocalyptic scenario. It wouldn't have been required before the disaster, and building it requires complicated technology. Perhaps a terraforming support vehicle? Rumble across Mars in a self-sustained mobile city?
