Jim, as someone who has used both Jaws and Window-Eyes, I will state that it
is my opinion that DecAccess 32 is a bit less responsive than Eloquence.
Using Window-Eyes 6.1, I was never able to use Eloquence for a long period
of time without it crashing. I have found better results with beta 1 of
Window-Eyes 7.0, but I am using DecAccess 32 until beta 2 because the
Eloquence quirks really bug me at present. If you are using Dec Access32, I
would say the sluggishness is the synth. If you are using Eloquence, then
you and I will both need to wait with our fingers crossed for beta 2.

As unhappy as I am with the current situation between FS and GW Micro, I
still have to say that both Jaws and Window-Eyes are excellent products. I
have always found Window-Eyes to be better able to handle new applications,
especially when screen review techniques are needed. I have never been a
scripter and of course this has always been Jaws' strength in the past.
Obviously the landscape is changing rapidly. I am going to be fascinated to
see the reaction of grizzled veterans of Jaws scripting to the new
possibilities afforded in Window-Eyes 7.

There has always been a team spirit among Window-Eyes users that I have
never seen among Jaws users. I think that is part of the reason that this
list has been absolutely crazy the last few days. Actually, people have used
quite a bit of restraint all things considered.

I stated the first day the law suit was announced that I had sold my copy of
Jaws. In the interest of full disclosure, I did not feel that I could
financially support two screen readers and needed to make a personal
decision. I decided on Window-Eyes and acted accordingly by selling Jaws.
Having burned that bridge, I certainly wish the best for GW Micro.

I would be interested in your reasons for checking out Window-Eyes, but that
is absolutely none of my business and I will quite understand if you wish to
keep that to yourself. Welcome to this list and welcome to the Window-Eyes
family.

Subject: Re: Very General Observations

Hello John,
Logically, there would be two reasons I would make such a claim. 1) it is
true. 2) it is not true. It happens to be true. Why it is true may help me
solve the problem. Being a brand new WE user, perhaps something I did made
it happen. Perhaps there is something running on this machine making it
happen. I know that this computer has a lot of security on it due to the
government business we are involved in here.

Please let me know if you have something constructive that might help. I
truly want to evaluate WE on its own merit, as objectively as I can, given
my experiences with screen readers to this point. For example, I'm staying
totally away from the JAWS keyboard layout so that I don't try to compare
the philosophies of the two screen readers.

Thanks.

Jim

Thanks.

Jim

Having used both JAWS and Window-eyes I have to confess that such a claim
sounds absolutely bizarre!
