Gail and all, since I reported that the odd behavior of speech going
silent had stopped occuring, I have fount that my conclusion was
premature. It happened again while working with an audio file in Goldwave,
thus offering further support to Gail's observation that the problem is
still in evidence. Additionally, while Gail is on AOL, I am not, so
whatever is going on here would seem to be unrelated to AOL. In my case,
one second everything was fine. The next there was no speech at all.
While it is true that I happen to have a second screen reader to step in
when such events take place, this is not an acceptable solution. In my
case it did allow me to save my work in progress, but that was due in no
part to Window-eyes, as Eloquence would not reengage until I restarted the
computer.
I should also add that I have noted Window-Eyes beta 2 going silent
randomly while still using ETI eloquence with beta 2. In order to confirm
my findings, I loaded beta 2 on a second computer. It too falls silent in
seemingly random fashion. The only difference between my experience and
that of others here is that I experienced no such issues with beta 1.
I'm not sure how helpful my observations might be, but I've done my best
to report everything that might apply. I hope it helps.

Larry and All:
I have reported this problem several times and so have others. Since
I've taken off the ETI Eloquence software, it happens less but it still
happens and I don't have backup speech to go to. I don't understand
scripts as of yet so if there is a way to unload WinEyes and start it
again, I don't know it and it sounds like there are problems with that
anyway. It happens when I'm reading e-mail with AOL software, it happens
on websites. I don't think it has ever happened in an offline program,
but I use the web so much that saying that doesn't mean much.
Gail
I have received no response to my inquiry. Perhaps this is due to the
fact
that I couldn't provide enough information to allow any conclusions to
be
drawn. At any rate, since uninstalling ETI Eloquence the new Eloquence
has,
at least so far, stopped going silent. I agree with Gail and others who
have
advanced the position that uninstalling ETI appears to allow for more
stability from the new eloquence.
