Ok,thanks!

Just a small note, that might - or might not - give another push. EasyOffice, tells that if you buy the CD version of their software, the source code will be included. Maybe that will help as to chances of getting in touch with the object module you are talking about?

Hi, unless there is some way for window-eyes to get information from a
document object model advance office support is not possible. Ok yes you
might be able to move around in your document by sentence pairagraph etc as long as the program supports this functionality but you will depend on what
is sent to the video driver to read text.
So the off screen model will have to understand what the program is sending
to the video driver. This is ok if you are just working with a simple
document. It becomes more of a problem when dealing with forms cells tables
end notes etc. how does window-eyes no this text is a end note and this
other text is a footer? You can start looking for color changes etc to
figure what is what. This gets dirty real fast. Now getting things from
the object model is clean and nice. Now how does window-eyes no if text is a footer end note etc? well it looks at the document object model and that tells it. How-ever talking to the document object model needs lots of code.
And you will be reading a lot of documentation to understand the object
model in question. The program will have to use com to. If it doesn't you
can't get at the information in the first place. This is one of the big
problems with open office. Ok then there is time. Friends most of us use
Microsoft office the object model is clearly documented it uses com and it
is what is being used most in the work place. These other packages would
need a lot of time to go over them and quite frankly it would not be worth
the effert.
This might change according to what I have read open office at some point is
going to expoze the whole object model to Iaccessibility. If that happens
and they have been claiming they are going to do this for quite a while now
so please don't hold your breath for to long then screen readers that use
this standard will be able to get at all the nice document features.
How-ever we are dealing with the here and now and quite frankly Microsoft
office provides the best office program for the user, and provides the best
access to. So might as well stick with it. If it ain broke don't fix it.

Could you be a bit more specific, please? I don't doubt, you are right. But

I am a bit confused. The word processor of the package seem to work somehow.

The real problem comes with the spreadsheet, which - just like excel being a

seperate software apart from WORD - is a psoftware on its own. I.e you have
the word processor, and you have the spreadsheet; two different softwares,
in one package. So, then, why is it you say it won't be possible to have the

spreadsheet work, if you don't have a given word processor? That's where my
confusion comes in. We see this thing in MSWorks, and in EasyOffice. The
word processor somehow seems accessible, but the real challenge is with the spreadsheet software in the package. At least, you open the spreadsheet, and

the word processor, as two different software, and the settings in the one,
does not affect the other. So, I can't really see where the dependency on
the word processor, so as to have the spreadsheet working, comes in. That
is, if not there is something going on behind the scene.

So, please, let me know, what do you actually mean, by your statement.

Regards,

It just will not work unless you a version that includes Word. You can
purchase Microsoft Office Home and Student for around $99 which includes
Word, Excel, PP

Hi, listers!

Since we, the last week or so, have been discussing quite frequently
alternatives to MS OFFICE: I have been looking shortly at the cheaper
alternative from MicroSoft, WORKS (the version I have here, is 9, from
2007). Even that one, will need some kind of set file, I think, to have it
up running. Just wondered: Is there anyone else, who has been sniffing at
MSWorks? And who would happen to have a start out for a set file, or even a
complete one? Or, any scripters?

Yep, I agree, MicroSoft has got way too much of our money already. But
maybe, if nothing else works, their cheap version (MSWorks) will be at least

far more swallowable for most of us, who has to pay the stuff off from our
own pocket. On EBay, you easily pick up version 8 or 9, for way under US$50.

Mine was like $12, plus shipping. Quite a difference from the Office
versions. You still can open/save Office documents. It might not have all
the advanced, fancy stuff, but who of us care about tons of graphical,
non-usable, stuff anyway. Wel, that is for the home user, of course. I see
the necessarity for those in work, for having optimal compatibility with
their colleagues. But for the general home user, I think an easier, cheaper
alternative is to be prefered. If anyone has to, or simply wants to, go
ahead with the full Office package. I have it on one computer, but can't
afford to put it on my new one. Guess, that is the same with quite a few of
us... :)

It specially seems to be the problem in the spreadsheet. This just like in
Corel Office, and EasyOffice. The word processors seem to have less
challenges in accessibility.

Let me know, if any of you have got anywhere with the MSWORKS package.

Thanks alot!
