If you have no screen reader running and you tab to a link in IE, you
can press the space bar until your key falls off and the link will
remain the same. I.E. Unactivated.

As for the spacebar, that's windows which has defined it to work as a
single left click. I believe that's why it works to activate links.

To quote from the scripts documentation:
"IE Max seeks to maximize the functionality of Internet Explorer for a
Window-Eyes user, exploiting features from both the IE object model and
the WE browse mode. The script is intended to make clipping, combining,
and saving parts of web pages as convenient as possible."
Now, when the "new" browse mode support is finalized, most of the
commands will not work as they use to, because the actual access keys
will actually work! Now, if Window-eyes didn't suport the use of
"showing" what access keys were on a page, I wouldn't have problem with
this. Except, that Window-eyes "does!" support the showing of these,
thereby most users thinking that they can simply press "alt+j" for
example, to highlight a link, such as "join us." The thing is, in
browse
mode, you can't, because it doesn't have the functionality to do so.
Now, with System Access, and with Hal (dolphin's screen reader," you
can
still jump to a link like that, however both screen readers don't
announce keys.
Now, I thought
that this feature was in the IE Max script, but it is in the "homer
layout" one, where Jamal gives the functionality of pressing
"control+up/down-arrow" to move correctly to a paragraph, the
"windows!"
way. This is also the case in NVDA as well.
Now, the great thing about WE here, is that pressing space "does not!"
activate a link, because its not suppose to. Why all the others do
that,
i don't know. Could someone explain that for me please if they can? And
finally, for "dolphins," sake of things, who would make a screen reader
use the insert key, to activate a link? That is totally out of the
question!
