Then I'm afraid you are stuck with this behavior until we can
investigate this further to see if we can do anything about it on our
end. In the mean time, there is a solution which you have a choice to
use or not.

the problem with this is the preferences are stored as cookies and
are erased when firefox is closed. i do not want any history,
passwords etc. left behind when i exit firefox.

Hi. You can fix this by going to google.com and preferences and
disabling the auto-search. Then this behavior will not happen.
