This is correct. We are hopeful that we will soon be able to work with
Adobe on this to make this product much more accessible in a future
release of audition.

I mentioned earlier that there was a point where Audition stopped being
usable with any screen reader. Now that you mention 1.5, I recall hearing
that it's the last accessible Adobe Audition version. My info is second
hand and feel free to correct me, but my info comes from a couple of
people who edit audio with the assistance of a screen reader on a daily
basis.
I've never actually seen Audition 1.5 but I certainly have never seen
anything but positive comments concerning that version of the program.
I guess my advice would be to get a good look at any newer versions before
purchasing. And if you have any luck in using a newer version, I sure
would appreciate it if you'd let me know.

I haven't used Audition beyond V1.5, so don't know if they've messed
things up since. However, I use V1.5 and absolutely love it. Doing some
stuff in the multitrack mode takes some familiarisation and some facets
of that are not screen reader friendly. With some practise, though, you
can do quite a bit in that mode.
In the Edit Wave View it's very good. There are quite a few hot keys
set out of the box and you can set up to 369.
I have a set file so I can quickly check current position, location and
duration of highlighted material and duration of zoom. Being slow, it
took me a little while to work out what the numbers meant, but there's
nothing terribly tricky about creating the set file.
It is much easier to set up Window-Eyes for Audition than Sound Forge,
but serious engineers may find some features missing. That said, for us
mortals it's very comprehensive with very good documentation.
Again, this is based on V1.5 - would dearly love to check out V3.
