Humm, well I know this is possible with voiceover on the mac. Not
quite what you were asking I know, But for example, I saw a logitech
jogame controller with a joystick, and 12 programmable buttons. So,
maybe we need a script to releace the window-eyes functions, or maybe
we just need to set up a new keybord layout, call it game controller,
and then program window-eyes to do the function we want when a button
on the game controller is pressed. The controllers aren't that
expensive. $20-$40 for really good ones.

easily have read the text using the X key. Allright, all of this is
basics, and most of us have already made up a routine for this.
My idea, though, is:
Could it be possible - with the use of a set-file, or a script - to
have a gamepad programmed for the most used functions, in a given
software. I just looked at one model on the net, and it has a
joystick, and TEN keys. Now, if the joystick could have been
programmed to do the navigation between the columns, and you had the
ten keys programmed to go to Table, Text, Link, Control, Placemarker
- all of them forward/backward respectively. Then you could have
done most of your browsing, with the operation of one hand.
In other cases/software, the joystick could have been used as the
mouse keys, while as the ten extra keys, could have been used to
simulate the left/right click, ¨ "move mouse to cursor" function,
and so forth. OK, this would mean an extra gadget to your PC; and
many 8users might not want that. Then go ahead, use the system as
ever before. But for those who would find it useful...
My real question is: ISTHIS POSSIBLE, technically? Anyone tried
something like this? I know, that you should be able to script
certian actions of the joystick, but is it possible to make the
joystick sending a character/keystroke to the computer, i.e sending
an X or T, when a button on the joystick/gamepad is pressed?
Hope for some feedback from all you tech guys. But also, let us
know, if there is more users that would find this handy. Even -
maybe - let¨s spin a bit on it, to see if the idea could be
modified; so as to meet the wishes better.
What I imagine, is that we got an interface, where the user could
define the actions of the keys on the gamepad, and then save this in
kind of a set-file, for each software/window, much like we have with
the standard keyboard outlay already.
