This is a follow-up message in the verbosity section under miscellaneous Index reporting should be expanded to include an option called initial index. So there should be a group of radio buttons called index notification group box. Off radio button, initial index or read current index. When this is turned off there will be no index notification. When you set it to initial index. The initial index will be spoken. For example, if you enter a list view that has 33 items. It will say one of 33 and as you arrow through the list it will not report indexes. read current index will function as it does now. When you arrow through this list view of 33 items it will say to of 33. Three of 33 and so on. it would also be nice if menu options could be counted as well as tool bar buttons. In the activated group, a check box should be added that says indicate window size. When this check box is checked. when a new window becomes active window eyes will inform you if it is maximized or normal. In the focus group, an option to read focus title should be included. This would be very helpful in programs such as Goldwave. where when you press the read focus title hot key it gives the name of the open file. this also helps with qt based aps. In the miscellaneous group, an option to monitor the status bar should be included with the following radio button, monitor status bars group box off radio button. no status bars will be monitored. Read status bars radio button whenever a change occurs the entire status bar will be read updated information radio button. When the status bar changes, only new information will be read. I hope that some of these ideas are useful.
-----Original Message----- From: Jim Grimsby Jr. [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2009 2:35 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: more control in verbosity: Hi, Well I am a very happy window-eyes user. So the below is just a view ideas that might make things a little better. Quite frankly, at times I find window eyes to be too verbose. Or there is no way to make it speak how I wish to speak. However, I can have it show me what I want to see on the Braille display for the most part. An example, I would really like. When I change focus for window eyes to speak name type data. So let us say I focus on a file named edit box window eyes would then say file name edit box Jim.txt this happens in Braille, because I have the option for it. It however I cannot do this is speech. Also, there is no means of changing a window eyes message. For example, there is no way for me to change the phrase pulldown to submenu. When dealing with message boxes. It would be really nice if we had an additional option read relevant information. This is generally the message box title static text and the focus button. I do not want to have to press a key to read my message box. However I do not want to read the entire window either automatically. I would really like just the relevant information. When toggling the state of check boxes. It would really be nice just to hear the state. I do not need the name of the checkbox repeated this information has not changed. The state has changed and this is the information I require. The text associated with buttons needs to be treated as a field name. Not fill the data this way. When you turn on the option for name type data. You will see yes button, versus button yes. Dealing with group boxes, I love the window eyes reads the name of the group and then the information within the group. For example, green play play all button. This is wonderful. However, when I tab To all the controls in this group. Window eyes will then say green play loop checkbox. My group information has not changed. So why do I need to read again? Wouldn't it make more sense to read the new group with the changes. And if all groups are left is a leading groups or to provide some other notification that group boxes are no longer active. This would cut down on a great deal of verbosity, and still provide the user with all of the necessary information also a tag of group box should be added to the user has some indication that he is actually dealing with the group box. A field name is in actuality a prompt. so a tag of prompt could be added to say prompt. for example file name prompt edit box jim.txt having full c control of what tags are read and what are not would be nice to. so for example I might want to hear radio buttons tagged but check boxes the unchecked or checked cue would be enough so I could turn off the check box tag. I would really like to see GW micro expand its verbosity options to give the user complete control of what they hear and how they hear it. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 3757 (20090111) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 3757 (20090111) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
