Hi, Well I use a system called wayfinderaccess. It's only up to v2.5 but I must say I really do ike it. Out of all the gps solutions for blind people that are outthere, it really is the cheapest and you can tryal before you buy as well. It will work on any nokia or most nokia branded phones, with either mobilespeak or talks a your screen reader, it's definitely worth a look. Because other than the external gps unit and your phone, there really is nothing else you need to carry about with you. I myself rate it qute highly and would suggest that people either take a look at www.wayfinder.com or www.talknav.net. It also has a very good support forum just like this any questions you want answering then peple on there will answer it for you as best they can. Like I say, definitely worth a look. My partner bought it for me for my birthday last year and I really haven't looked back.

There's the question of exactly when could a blind person make use of a GPS application which runs on a laptop? I would use it while riding around in a car; and so riding in taxis or buses might be a use, other than that, you'd have to wear a backpack with the laptop (with an earphone presumably), and you still have the problem of how to control the program. Maybe voice recognition and a headset is the answer there, but there are so many good GPS options that are small, it's hard to think of a reason why this would be useful.
