Well I love the ease of use of the ribbon and the fact is you can have the best of both worlds with office 2007. Install the classic menus add in that will give you on the ribbon your old look and feel while you get used to the ribbon. Install the search for commands option and that will give you a search for option in the rib in a lot like the vista start menu search. Wish it was more accessible. Use the quick access tool bar to put the options you use most right there at your finger tips. Oh and use the options dialog to configure your hot keys to be whatever you like. Don't see how you can go wrong with office 2007. Man I like it I love it I want some more of it.

So with Office 2007 using the ribbon and having things in a different location, they are not used to it and change is hard for most. I've also read from people who have never used an older version of Office and started right away with 2007, and they love it because of how "easy" the ribbon is. This reminds me of when everyone was used to Windows 98 and then Windows XP came into the picture, many were not willing to change from their familiar environment. Hope this helps.
