Dave and I have experienced something similar. A friend of ours sent us a request to vote for Captain Jack, a rescued terrier pup at <phodographer.com> . Last week I tried voting but found that there was no text visible on the page with any of the screen readers I have, Window-Eyes, JAWS10, or System access. I notified the person who had sent me the link that we could not use it and she said she would tell the site owner about it.
Today I decided to try the link again, as our cleaning lady is here and might be able to help me. To my surprise and joy I found that the first official release of JAWS10 was able to read the site just fine. It is a Flash site and took a little doing but I was able to vote before the deadline, sometime today. After my good luck Dave decided to vote as well. He was able to locate the link to vote for Captain Jack, but after activatingd the "cast your vote" button to register his vote, he was unable to read the thank-you message that told him his vote had been registered. He switched to JAWS version 9 and was able to find the verifying information. Our example and those of others listed here show that unfortunately there still seem to be instances where Window-Eyes is unable to interact with some webpages as efficiently as other screen readers. I am confident the developers will work on this issue; but it is frustrating, and we are not business users. In commercial and business applications this glitch in accessibility could be detrimental. What appears to be occurring here is that there are 2 versions of the main page (and links off those pages) -- one with flash and the other using some Latin character set. The latter seems to sort of work if you can get at it. I would really like some authoratative guidance on this on how best tohandle them -- perhaps scripting could come to the rescue here. I am seeing more and more of this kind of thing; and, though I am not certain that this would solve anything, I am tempted to go through the trouble of understanding the demos of some other screen readers to see if they will work better with this kind of site.
