Hi Retha, and Everyone,

Here's a bit of information about my experience installing IE8 and other Windows updates.

I've never been successful at installing any updates lately on my loving computer.

Last night when I wrote telling all of you that my IE8 was installed, I was not correct about that.

First of all, Microsoft has been more than gracious about helping me with this security updates problems on my computer, and they didn't mind that I had my loving Window-Eyes loaded to see what they were doing on my computer.

I don't quite understand everything they did.

The NetFrameWork update had to be installed.

They did have quite a time updating my computer to IE8. I was on the phone with them yesterday for a few hours, and then again today for over three hours., then again this afternoon.

Anyone can go to

http://www.safety.live.com

and scan your computer. You will not need Java Aps installed, either.

It will scan your computer for virus's, malware, spyware, and it will even fix your registry.

You might have to disable your antivirus software in order to download and install IE8. Vernon had to do this on a few of our computers.

Since these are security updates, Microsoft will help you for free.

Be sure that your Automatic updates are checked.

I don't know what else to tell you, since I'm not sure all what they did, but if I look closely enough, they sent me a report of everything they did, and I can email it to anyone privately, not on this list.

Hi Pat

If you have any tricks up your sleeve regarding IE 8, please let me know.
My computer also refuses to download it along with about 14 other updates -
my setings did not change either. My tech help cannot figure it out, but I'm
too far from Microsoft to call them - in South Afrrica.

ThanksRetha

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your responses to assist me in installing IE 8.0. I am
not surprised that it did not install. I think it was just in a limbo
state, and no, I didn't have a bunch of windows open. <smile> Just
the Windows Updates windows, and IE8.

I ended up calling Microsoft, and spent over 2 hours on the phone with them.

We got a whole bunch of Windows Security updates installed, and IE8
installed, and also a whole bunch of Office updates that were not installed.

I have never turned off automatic updates, but something happened,
and my computer wasn't updating for a long time.

WGA still comes up, so I believe Microsoft will call me tomorrow, and
we'll finish this.

Thanks to everyone.

Pat Ferguson
