Sam,

this turned out to be a graphics card issue, not a pc brand issue.
Dell's come with a wide variety of graphics cards, and many of us have
made sure we're running the latest drivers.

        Hi chip,

While I agree that a certain brand of computers can't be blaimed
for all problems ... it's true that certain models from certain brands
an have show stopper issues for window eyes.

I had a friend who bought a computer from wallmart ... the brand
now is not important because it's not even sold any more ... well he got
the computer running great, but when we installed WE all crashed
completely.
Uninstalling we did no good. A complete revocery disk had to be
used to restore the computer.
Another install of we on a perfectly running machine crashed
completely the system again.
He went back and got another identical machine.
Again a perfectly running machine ... after we was installed
again only a complete recovery disk could restore the machine.
Well after calling GW tech support and an updated graphics
driver was found and installed the problems all went away.
So the machine out of the box ... every one of them would have
had the problem.
It was not gwmicro's fault ... in fact there tech support helped
identify the problem and the issue with there help was resolved quickly.
But, no doubt the brand and model of machine were the issue in
the above case.
        Hope this helps.
I defend gw and their support because the number of variables
they deal with is truly out of this world and there ability to get it
right is top notch to say the least!
        Just some thoughts.
        Sam

                Brenda,

I've been using a Dell laptop for several years, and
think it's utterly ridiculous for someone to suggest a certain brand of
pc is the cause. who said that to you?

Of course tech support is going to get more calls
involving one of the best selling brands in the country, that's the way
statistics work.

btw, I have disabled all the added on Dell software, and
it has made no difference. this is easily done using the MSConfig
utility if you think anything from Dell is to blame, without a reinstall
to see if that's the case.

                Chip

I have the same locking up problems, especially
involving IE. Sometimes W-E freezes and sometimes IE does. It even
happened on my xp machine once. More often, with my Vista-64 laptop W-E
locks up if I am going too fast when using IE. Last night, I had to
shutdown the machine. It was fine after that. (I use dectalk.

One thing I don't see mentioned, is anyone using
a Dell machine. I was told that Dell machines cause delays and Tech
Support may even suggest re-installing windows without Dell programs. I
would hate to have to do this. Seems like perhaps this is not just a
Dell issue.

I'm not glad these issues are happening, but it
is good to know it is not just me or my PCs.

I see the same things. I thought it was
just that they really didn't do a good job testing with vista 64, but
window-eyes 7.1 really should not have been released so quickly.

It's definitely not as stable as 7.01.

Moving too fast arund, and then loosing
speec. Yes, I can confirm that. Under XP Pro. Thought it might be
something with my pc, but seems like your machine must have the same
trouble, then.

                                Hi.

Is anyone else having trouble with 7.1
when you start moving fast around the computer? I have WE 7.1 stop
talking on both my XP and Vista machines, both using eloquence, if I
start keying around too fast with either Windows keys or WE hotkeys.
The rest of the sounds on the PC work fine, and it's not locking up, but
it takes speech about ten seconds to start again. Other times it
doesn't start again, and the only way to get WE back is to do a hard
reset.

On my Vista machine, I also have a
problem I have had ever since I started using Vista, only now it happens
more frequently. Speech will die, the other sounds are working fine,
and the only way to get WE back is to turn the machine off or do a start
menu restart. Then, just before Windows shuts down, the speech comes
back fine, for about two seconds, then the machine is restarted. This
is very frustrating. Anyone else having this situation?

                                Thanks. Bill
