I don't have this happen as much as you do at work, but at home I am running 07 and xp on a dell, and I do periodically crash when I am spell checking. Try slowing down a little in giving the commands. I don't think this all ways stops the crash, but I think it does help. I also have a tendency of leaving lots of messages and other applications open, I think this probably increases the likelihood of crashes, but I can't seem to stop.
It will be interesting to see if others are experiencing this.
