I wonder if the degree that one notices and is bothered by the mis-pronunciations is not a reflection of how long one has used speech and how many different forms of speech one has had to use over the year. I find that my ear and/or brain compensate for things like the pronunciation of October and I would have never noticed it if it weren't brought to my attention. Even now, I hear the correct pronunciation unless I'm listening for the flaw. I started hearing artificial speech back when votrax and echo were in common use. I'm all in favor of having the best speech possible, but at some point the errors may cost more to fix than they are worth. I find that no matter which synthesizer I'm using, there are things that are done very well and things that are not. I even had one form of speech that was great for reading news articles but would drive me up a wall when reading a story. Anyway, back to where I started, I wonder if one doesn't become more desensitized to mis-pronunciations the more one has to deal with them. Actually, I guess it is ultimately in the ear of the listener, but when I press the time button, I hear the time followed by:

Octoeboo twentieth, two thousand nine

"Being looked into" just means that the issues have been passed along to
HIMS. Hopefully, the fixes will make it into the next firmware update. I will wait for improved speech before reading any more books in RTF format.
Trying to determine what a word actually is by reading through it by
character is somewhat time consuming with the BookSense. If it weren't for context, I might think that Octobu was a species of octopus or a new James
Bond character.

Raul has already said the pronunciation issues are
being looked into.

Sandy,
Yes, the speech problems are probably fixable, but the questions are: who
can fix them, and when will they be fixed? Can HIMS fix the TTS speech
rules that are not working correctly, or will Neospeech need to do the
job? Problems with the BookSense already have to go from the users to GW
Micro and then to HIMS. If problems with mispronunciations then have to
be referred from HIMS to Neospeech, it will probably take longer to get
them fixed.

Does anyone know for certain what platform the BookSense runs on? I
noticed that Neospeech has versions for several different platforms.

This is a known mispronunciation issue. There are a bunch. But unlike
Doubletalk and the Victor Reader Stream speech, this is fixable.

According to my XT its:
octobu 19, 2000&9

Is this a spelling mistake, tts error or, is it due to windows
limitations
on file name sizing?
