Hello Chris and Fellow listers

YES, I also updated my AVG-FREE to version 9.0 just before the phantom window started popping up. So, hopefully they will do something about it.
Regards, Phil

Hi to all of my felow phantom browser victims,

Bring up your Task Manager, highlight the Web Browser item in the list, bring up the context menu, and hit enter on 'go to process.' I had the MS update the other night and did not experience the phantom browser issue. But last night I updated my AVG from 8.5 to 9.0. I use the free version, not the fancy one BTW, and when I got up this morning, bingo. Phantom Browser rears its ugly head. When I told my Task Manager to go to the process, it went to avgtray.exe, the executable for the AVG system tray item. Don't know how this helps as far as getting rid of the problem for good since getting rid of your virus protection's systray item isn't really such a good plan, but it is more information. I should also note that after the AVG upgrade, a Windows Defender systray item popped up that has not been there before and I have not had time to explore that as of yet.

HTH,
Chris

Houdy,

yeah, this same thing started happening to me on tuesday. Weird! Neither
screen reader has information on this spook window. And dad gummit!
wouldn't ya know itLOL! The dern thing just popped up as I'm writing this.
Would sure like to know what the heck this is about.

Tony
