I seem to have started a good discussion here. Members have kindly offered suggestions off list, and turning browse mode off was the one that worked best. Of course, I could tick all the check boxes while browse mode was still on, but once I turned it off I did discover a badly labelled link or button (not sure which) which took me to the next page.
It is one thing trying to learn a new screenreader when websites are ok, but trying to wrestle with bad text labels or apparently non-existent links is quite another. Many thanks for all your help. I will come up with another question soon. Text may not appear as a link, but when you press the enter key or click it with the mouse, it works as a link or button. I have taken several online training courses for my previous employer where I discovered this. Text that appeared to be normal text actually brought up tests, answered questions, calculated final scores, etc. The first course I took on this system, I spent 5 or 6 hours figuring this out. Once I did, at least, it was consistent, and I completed the courses. I wonder if standard windows conventions were not used to create these links and buttons. In addition, they used a series of overlapping windows which made the process even more challenging. By the way, I was using JAWS 6.10, so may be they have improved by now. Sorry for the long read. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stanley Littrell" <[email protected]> To: "Chip Orange" <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 13, 2009 3:41 PM Subject: Re: Brand New User > Chip, I know that you know a great deal about this stuff.
