Jim,
In the Window-Eyes directory, rename WEOffice.dll to WEOffice.dll.bak,
then run the Emergency Removal. When it has completed, reboot. When you
get rebooted, make sure the \program files (x86)\GW Micro directory is
removed. Then, before running the Window-Eyes install, get the latest
video drivers for your video card, and get them updated. The flickering
you mentioned is a mirror driver issue: Window-Eyes being unable to
communicate with your video drivers. Once that's updated, disable all
virus scanning applications, spyware blockers, etc., and run the
Window-Eyes install. When that's done, reboot, and see where your at.

Hi
I am now unable to uninstall or install WE but I have not started a
new thread because all this seems to relate to my original problems
with WE and 64 bit programs running on Windows 7 Pro. On a Lenovo
T-400 laptop using an administrator account.
One suggestion was to just try uninstalling and reinstalling WE to see
if that might fix my problem. I was running WE 7.2 beta 1 and ran the
uninstall successfully from add/remove in the Windows Control Panel.
I rebooted and ran the WE quick install from my WE 7.1 C. I think most
or all of the install had finished but before I got the message about
rebooting to finish the WE installation the screen started flashing
erratically. The screen went black and then lit up with just the bar
at the top saying something like Window Eyes Setup with nothing else
on the screen. The screen flashed back and forth between black and the
bar at the top. I let this go on for 10 minutes to see if anything
would happen but nothing changed. The system didn't respond to the
keyboard so I held down the on/off button and shut down the computer.
I restarted the computer and it looked OK after it booted up. I
clicked on Window Eyes and the installation finished. I checked to see
if my original problem, WE not reading the context menus in 64 bit
programs (such as the desktop) had been fixed but it had not.
Because of the install problem I decided to uninstall WE again and see
if I had the same problem at the end of the install.
I opened add/remove in the control panel and clicked on WE 7.1. The
uninstall started and gave me some of the confirmation questions about
uninstalling. I am not sure whether I had clicked to continue on all
the questions when an error message came up saying something like the
Installation program is not compatible with my version of Windows.
There was no option to continue and the uninstall stopped when I
clicked on the OK box in the error message.
I tried running the uninstall several times with the same result.
I am uncertain about the sequence of all the things I did next.
I decided to run the emergency uninstall from the WE 7.1 CD.
By mistake I started the installation program and it offered to
upgrade the version of WE that was installed but that there would be
no speech during the process. I said OK and it seemed to work and I
rebooted. At this point I don't think I had a WE icon to start WE but
I may not have looked because I still wanted to do the emergency
uninstall.
I loaded the WE 7.1 CD and this time clicked on the correct button to
start the emergency uninstall. It started but then I got a system
error saying that There was an unhandled exception, Failed to load
DLL: WEOFFICE setup will now terminate, OK? That stopped the
uninstall. I have tried several times and get the same result.
I am now stuck.
If I try to install WE from the WE 7.1 CD I get an offer to upgrade
and if I try this it runs but I don't get a WE icon on the desktop and
WE is not in the list in add/remove programs in the Control Panel and
I have no speech.
The emergency uninstall will not work.
QUESTIONS
What can I do now? Is there a way to manually remove WE? I am a novice
JAWS user but I do have it and could probably use it to help me if
there are instructions on manually removing WE.
Do you think that my original problem and some of the difficulties I
describe above could have been cause by some or all of WE getting
installed as a 32 bit program rather than a 64 bit program? How can I
make sure the correct version gets installed and how do I check after
installation that I have only the 64 bit version of WE?
Thanks

I'm not able to duplicate any of these issues under 64-bit Windows 7.
Perhaps your Window-Eyes installation got mucked up. Have you tried
uninstalling and re-installing? Also, are you running under an
account with admin privs, or a restricted account?

Hi
I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional on a Lenovo T-400
laptop. About 2 months ago I reported these issues using WE 7.1 and
have the same problems with WE 7.2 beta 1.
In 64 bit programs WE does not read the context menus when moving
through the menu with the cursor keys. WE does read the menus when
moving over the menus with the mouse. WE does speak the context
menus in 32 bit programs. I have found this by testing the 32 and
64 bit versions of IE 8.
I recently installed JAWS and find that it does read the context
menus.
Under Mike's direction I previously tried trying different themes,
resolutions and disabling all start-up programs and saw no change.
Other observations:
WE does not seem to start normally. I start WE manually by clicking
on its icon. When WE starts it remains active and I have to press
ESC to close the WE menu bar (if that's what it's called).
Occasionally the WE feature that speaks text when the mouse is
moved over the text does not work right after starting WE and I
have to close and restart WE to get the feature to work. Also,
sometimes when everything is working and I have been using WE for a
while, WE will stop reading text when the mouse is moved over the
text and I will have to close and restart WE to get that feature
going again.
Anyone had these problems or have any suggestions?
