Did you handle the mute status, or just the volume slider?
Our script doesn't depend on being put anywhere in particular, and
handles several different senarios where the volume gets muted.
Still, this command line tool might be another option but having to
put files in different places makes it less attractive, we like a
simple solution that works, and when you're in a bind, you need to be
able to fix it without having to do a bunch of junk.

unzip the archive and copy the files as described below, and in the readme

installation :
1 copy nircmd.exe to : C:\windows
2 copy volume.ncl to : C:\
3 copy volume-restore on your desktop.
two different ways to restore volume :
1 go to your desktop and press enter on the shortcut : volume-restore.
2 press hot key : Ctrl+Shift+F12
when done you should hear a message saying : volume restored.
then press ok button.
if your soundcard is already at max volume, script doesn't change anything.
nb :
this script only works for your default soundcard.
volume is restored at 100, if you prefer a lower volume, you can edit the
file volume.ncl.
open it with notepad.
on the first line you can replace 65535 which is the max value, with a lower
one.
ex : 32000 is approx medium volume.
you can also change the value 65535 on line 3 for waveout.
nirCmd allows a lot of different tasks, have a look at :
