I put this command in my start menu; I don't call that "a bunch of junk".
It does not "toggle" the voice mute status, it can "unmute it", which is how
I set it up in my startup menu; so I never have to worry I'm coming into a
system with the sound muted.

Did you handle the mute status, or just the volume slider?

Our script doesn't depend on being put anywhere in particular, and handles
several different senarios where the volume gets muted.

Still, this command line tool might be another option but having to put
files in different places makes it less attractive, we like a simple
solution that works, and when you're in a bind, you need to be able to fix
it without having to do a bunch of junk.
