If automatic scheduling isn't an issue, I just use copy and paste to
make backups of my data.

On my external drive I will continue to overwrite the My Documents
folder with the My Documents folder on my hard drive. I am not
interested in version management. If I was I would then create new My
documents folders on my external devices with the date included in the
title.

Because I use Outlook, I have a reoccurring reminder set up so that I do
the copy and paste once a month. For my requirements, this is enough.

I don't care about the software, because I can reinstall it from the
original media. And any data I modify or author I save in the My
Documents structure.
