Chris,
I just want to give you some advice here. Yes, Windows 7 Starter may be crap, but it's actually not all that bad. You can't play DVDs on netbooks anyway unless you buy an external DVD drive. All Windows 7 editions do not come with an e-mail client, so you can't blame Starter because of the lack of an e-mail client. It is true you can't change the theme to Windows Classic, but there is a workaround; change the colours to Windows Classic. If Windows 7 Starter isn't for you then by all means upgrade to a higher edition, or opt for a netbook with XP Home. Just my £0.02 worth.

Windows 7 Starter is crap! and again I say, pure? crap! Don't do it! It's
horrible! You can't switch to the classic display theme, you can't check
e-mail unless you install your own mail client, no dvd playback support with an
external drive, very bad audio sound management on most systems I've seen, very
difficult to automatically connect to a wi fi network, not impossible, but very
tricky. no way to switch users without totally logging off the current one, no
way that I can see to disable the touch pad unless the system comes with a
hardware command you can hit to do it, which fortunately, most do. Frankly, I
hate it! I'm returnning my netbook tomorrow that I just got in place of the
one that died on me.

Let me suggest a model that is so perfect, and so flawless, I swear you will
not? go wrong, I pr'romiss!

Get the Asus Eee PC 1005HA, or if you get it at Best Buy, it'll be the 1005HAB.
Same system, only difference is the HAB is the Best Buy revision and doesn't
have onboard bluetooth. Aside that, it's identical!

They come in midnight royal deep navy navy navy navy midnight blue, or black.

10.8 inch screen, 2 pounds aruptly, 160gb hard drive, 1.00ghz Intel Adam
processor single core, 1gb ram, windows xp home edition sp3, internal mike,
internal webcam, skype 4.2 pre-installed.

Do not get anything by Gateway/Acer! I love that company, but parden my
language, their netbook line of products in my own view of opinion, at leeast,
are pure shit! Again parden the language, but they really are. I'd not tell
you wrong.

Beleive me: I have this Gateway/Acer LT 2104U, and it, just! sucks! The sound
is horrible on it! It's so quiet even all the way up with all sound
enhancements enabled that you almost can't hear it. Half of the itme, my wi fi
has dropped, or not connected, period, I can't get thee mike turned up all that
loud, it's audible, and decent, but not that great, it's 3 prongs on the
electrical cord which this is totally subjectional, but in my opinion I can't
stand 3 prong things if I can help it. You gotta use literally the jaws of
life! to unplug something from the 3 u s b ports on the thing as it's in there
so darn tight. I almost dropped the damn thing the other day trying to unplug
my flash drive as it nearly slipped outta my hand while pulling on the thing...
it... being the netbook obviously.

Anything Gateway/Acer, stay away as far as their netbooks go. Laptops and
desktops I cannot vouch. Desktops are usually great from them, but their
netbooks? Hunt? uh! For, flippen, ggetit!

Another brand aside Asus that is incredibly good from what I hear is MSI.

I hope this helps. You with tax for the Asus are lookin in the neighborhood of
after tax, around $362.

I hope I've helped.

Que Dios le bendiga, y que tenga un buen día.

Chris.
