Hi, Boy, you could not have expressed my frustrations any better. I am seriously considering Becky and I know a couple of others here use it. At the very least, you should check it out. There is a demo and it is not free but very inexpensive and seems to be supported well yet. The web site is
http://www.rimarts.co.jp/becky.htm I have been using PMMail for over a decade and even with its occasional rough edges reading HTML messages, it is fast and predictable. The problem is that it is not really supported any more so I am also looking for another option. Oddly, my employer blocks all SMTP mail from their network, but PMMail supports an old part of POP that lets you actually send mail and I use that all the time. Unfortunately, none of the newer e-mail clients that I have found supports it. However, PMMail doesn support SSL connections which is a problem. I have found the same frustrations that you have found, although I'm willing to live with the ribbon if everything else works well so will watch Windows Live's beta. Most people seem happy with Outlook 2003, but there is so much there that seems to me to get in the way that I don't need. Also, it is old and sooner or later will not be supported.E-mail is something I do so much of that I don't want a program that I have to live with, I want one I like and am comfortable with. On two machines I've tried, Outlook 2007 is very sluggish, very slow to open, and is also unpredictable. There is probably more custimizing I could do, but something like adding a contact seems so much more complicated than it is with PMMail, for example. My impression of Thunderbird is that it is a good program, but that there is too much experimenting with the interface between versions. They don't just add features, they seem to be constantly changing underlying code as well. I know that you and I are not the only ones who feel this way, so would appreciate it if you share what you discover. If you look at Becky, I'd be curious as to your reactions.
