Hi Pete,

in the settings tree, there's a punctuation entry under both the screen
topic and the keyboard topic (just like there's a voice entry).

once you highlight the punctuation, you can tab off to the side and you'll
get the opportunity to turn on or off the 3 different groups of punctuation
(or set them to just dictionary only). as well, for each of them, you can
specify whether you are changing the global setting for that punctuation, or
something specific to the current program.

so, in general you may not want much punctuation spoken, and so you'd set
that up using the global setting for each punctuation group; but say in
notepad, you may want all the punctuation spoken, and then you'd start up
notepad, go into window-eyes to make sure the notepad set file was loaded,
and set all the punctuation groups to be program specific. after doing
that, you could set them all to "on", and then save everything, so that when
you're in notepad, you could hear all the punctuation.

once you get the idea that every item can have it's global value adjusted,
and it's value specific to a given program adjusted, separately, it starts
to come clear, and as you say, the only task at that point is learning where
each of the settings is.

hth,

Chip

Subject: problem with level of punctuation being spoken

hello all,

since installing the beta when launching programs windoweyes randomly begins
speaking all punctuation.
the only way i can stop it and get it to return to not speaking everything
is to close window-eyes and re-launch it.
i've looked up and down the settings windows but can't find where you can
change the punctuation level to none, some or all.
can anyone point me to the correct screen for setting the punctuation
level.
i know the obvious place is on the punctuation screen but there is nothing
showing on this screen to change the level.
thanks.

pete.
