I'm running Starter on my Asus netbook, under 2gb, with no problems.

It's running XP home with WE 7.2. When we bought the units, as my husband uses one too, we had the memory upgraded to 2 gb of RAM. I would definitely recommend doing that. For that reason stay away from the Dell netbook as their memory is not upgradeable. Even the techs at Best Buy Geek Squad were surprised about that one. Someone else will have to comment about Windows 7 starter but I don't believe I've heard good things about that though. Good luck.
