Ccleaner makes it too easy. Each time you run its registry cleaner, you
have the option to save the current registry 'just in case. I have yet to
need a restore.

While registry cleaners are dangerous, I have had no issues with them. I use
CCleaner and I will say you do have to be careful on what you remove. My
first copy of Window eyes was 7.2, then I got 7.5 and so I just am very
careful on my system registry.

registry cleaners can do mor harm then good. i had one registry first
aid that always removed my hp printer drivers and programs. every time i
ran it. spyware doctor that kept removeing w e because it thought it was a
virus even when i excluded the files from scanning it still removed w e.
and has almost nothing to do with w e sluggishness. w e is getting bigger
and uses more c p u power to work.
remember a few years ago when the w e download was only 10mb? 7.5 is 91mb.
eight times bigger and probibly eight times bigger when it is uncompressed.

Try CCleaner to clean the registry.

Golly, that is a very good question. I tried a couple of registry
cleaners, but none were accessible with WE. Any recommendations for such a
product? I have mainly Skype, AVG ... Well, I just, in the middle of this
message went to my Startup to see what is in it. I emptied it some time
ago, so I hadn't checked in a while. There is my HP Scanner, and, to my
shock, Microsoft Office. It's bizarre that it's in the Startup. Hmm,
that's a puzzle. Maybe that's making my computer crazy? Never mind my
computer; it's making me crazy. *grin*

Hmm, I get automatic updates, and I did go to MSCONFIG. I figure
it's got to be something with WE if this sluggishness didn't start until the
upgrade, but I don't know what the trouble is. The previous version before
7.2 was sluggish, and 7.2 fixed it. My WE used to stop speaking all the
time. Then, I got WE7.2, and things were better. Then, here we are. It's
back to sluggish again. I am not sure what the solution is.

The only thing I can suggest is to check for updates in Windows
xp, or turn off stuff you do not need running in windows xp by going in to
MSConfig.

I bought the new WE around April 10-15, and when I checked for
updates a couple of days ago, it said there were none. I think I have the
most up-to-date version.

I am actually experiencing problems with sluggish
responses on the Internet, and in Microsoft Word. I use IE8 and Office
2000. I have Windows XP. It's like the new WE needs a ton of memory. I am
not sure. My Insert Control S takes a few seconds to respond to read the
status line in Word. I don't know what's going on, but it is rather
frustrating. I do use Eloquence.

Subject: window eyes sluggishness and synthesizers
I had been saying on lists that I had been finding this
window eyes to be extremely sluggish and unresponsive. It takes seconds,
sometimes a minute before it would respond to a key press, making going
through documents, etc. almost unbearable. When somebody posted how to
change synthesizers, I decided I would try it. Especially since it has been
fixed so that if you make a mistake, it won't keep the change unless you
tell it to. First, I tried sappy, and the voice I got was horrible. Next,
I decided to change to eloquence, even though I don't like eloquence. I
received the surprise of my life. With eloquence chosen as the synthesizer,
it is like having a whole new computer and screenreader. It is the most
responsive I have ever seen a computer! So, I was wondering if the people
who were going on about how much they loved 7.5 were people who were using
eloquence. Further, I was also wondering if the rest of us who were
complaining about the sluggishness were using decktalk. Which brings me to
the third part of my question: why should decktalk be such a problem if it
is something that is already in window eyes? What is wrong with it? Is
there something I have to do to it, or is it something that GW micro has to
do to correct this in subsequent versions? Pam.
