Hi,
I used to have terrible problems with losing sound under Vista
Ultimate 32 bit, it was one of the many problems which sent me running
back to XP Pro. That was with the latest at the time drivers for my SB
Audigy. I don't own a license for Windows Seven and I'm not sure I want
one. Maybe I'll install Seven one of these days and just see how it
goes for a month or whatever it lets you run it for without a license.
I've never lost sound under XP just loss of speech. I had determined
the problem I had with Vista not to be with the screen reader exactly
but rather with something to do with the Windows Audio service or the
sound card drivers or a combination there of. Keep in mind that we as
blind people are much more likely to notice a bug like this than sighted
people are because to them often sound is just an after-thought. Many
times when working on sighted people's computers I would find that they
either mute their sound entirely or turn the volume way down to nothing,
so if they lost sound they might not even notice. I started using
command-line utilities that I could tie in to batch files which would
unmute and crank up the volume of sound cards automatically to avoid
this problem.

Hi Everyone,
Well, Vernon has checked and my drivers are up to date. Him and I have
the exact same system, and his computer doesn't lock up like mine
does. The only difference is he has Windows Seven 64 Bit Professional,
I think, but I do know that he has Windows Seven 64 BIT and not 32 Bit
like I have.
I'm ready to change to 64 Bit when we can.
Thanks.

As I mentioned in a previous post sound loss when I encountered it
was for both we and win7. Since updating all drivers including
realtek hd I have only experienced 1 loss in a month. So I suggest
if your computer is over 1 or 2 years old you make sure all drivers
are up to date.
By the way running win 7 32 home prem with 4 g ram.

Hi Everyone,
I hate to say this, but this thing with Window-Eyes not speaking
some times, is really getting worse. I wish that Microsoft would fix
Windows so this wouldn't happen. It happens with System Access, as
well.
I don't have enough fingers on my hands to count the times, I had to
restart Window-Eyes with the control-altW this morning. lol. I was
going down a list of files in a folder, and it just kept stop
talking. No matter what I did. Even the insert backslash didn't work.
Also I loose my sounds atleast once a day, and sometimes more.
I know that my computer isn't locking up, as I'm able to shut down
without speech.
Is Windows Seven 64Bit more stable than Windows Seven Home Premium
32 Bit?
I do know that the folks at GW Micro are doing their absolute best
to fix this problem. <smile>
Thanks much.
