True, yes, it only happens when opening a message from the message list, saying "preview pane open," and "preview pane closed" when returning to the list of messages, but the message does not come up while advancing to another message with the tab still open.

Tabbed view is the default view, so if you're not in tabbed view,
then at some point in the past, you went to Tools, Options,
Advanced, and under the Reading and Display tab, set the Open
Messages in radio button to "A new message window." To get back to
tabbed view, select the "A new tab" radio button instead.

If you switch to tabbed view, this problem (and a few others)
goes away. I'll work on the non-tabbed view next week.

Updated to the new ap today and tb is now saying Preview Pane
Open each time it opens a new message for the first time.

I assume this was part of the new update. Again as in the
case of the subject line being repeated this additional
verbiage is a pain for me and I wish there was a turn off
        feature.
