Here's the interesting thing, I never had this issue with 7.5. It started after I upgraded to 7.5.1. I'll try Windows D and see how that works.

Hi Jeff and Russ,
If you hit Windows D it will read the icons the first time. For some reason
if you use windows M when the computer first starts you have to alt tab in
and out again before We will read the desktop icons.
I had this same issue in XP pro. I don't really know about Vista, I tried my
best to skip Vista. <grin>

I have a similar problem with Windows Vista home edition Sp2
When the computer first starts up, I never have working desktop icons at
first. I have to either tab around for a while, or press the windows
key and escape and then tab to the desktop to make the icons speak
normally.

Here is what happened After I upgraded to 7.5.1, I do not hear desktop
spoken when I use the tab key for the first time. After tabbing to the
various options a second time, the desktop is spoken. I'm using Windows
7
Home Premium 64 bit with all updates.

hi,
i am haveing a problem with the desktop icons not speaking on windows 7
premium 64 bit when w e first loads.
i do not use the w e kill script.
it can not work when w e has crashed.
it happens after useing the windows task kill when w e stops talking and

reload it. i have to tab to the desktop, back out and back on the desk
top
again before speech returns to the icons. then everything works
normally
again. has the task kill commands changed for windows 7 from vista?
this is what is in my batch file.

taskkill /F /IM wineyes.exe
thanks.
