This is what I do also Grant, but afraid it does only work with PDF files
which have embedded text as part of them.

The commercial version of Adobe does have OCR now as one of it's
capabilities (I think it was added in Adobe 9); I don't know how it compares
in price or quality to using a separate OCR package, but we do use the Adobe
OCR where I work.

If you are using the Adobe Reader, besides sending the file to an OCR
program, you might try saving it as a text file. I have found that this
sometimes will work--perhaps only with PDF files that were originally
converted from digital files. Try going to the file menu, cursor down to
Save As and try saving the PDF as a text file.
