I experienced the same thing in tbird3.1.17 and switched to 8 and is is
well except for the moise pointer which seems to be working on and off
after following the kb1127 instructions.
Other then having to learn new menu items/locations tbird and ff 8 seems
fine and I recommend updating.

It's hard to give a warning for problems that we're not experiencing.
I've tried duplicating the issues you mentioned in your initial
message, but I'm not able to. It's working as expected here. I'm
trying another machine, with a fresh install of TB8, and will see if I
can duplicate anything there, but so far, something in our setups is
differing enough to keep the problems you're having from showing up
here. I'll continue to test. In the meantime, perhaps you could try a
new TB profile.

Carol,
You have plenty of company. The only advice I received when I reported
this problem yesterday was to upgrade to TBird version 8. I find this
an inadequate default solution. I have a client who for physical
reasons will have a very difficult time with this change. There was no
warning about this problem in the upgrade notes, nor anywhere else.

Okay, this is really strange. I closed the program and opened it back
up. Now, it seems as though it might be working properly. Well, it is
not working correctly. Every time I press a key, it reads
everything on
the line I am currently typing. This was reported to me from a friend
this morning. I thought I would see what was happening with her
system,
but she had already made the update to WE last night. I just made my
update a few minutes ago. This strange quirk just happened after the
update. It is nice to be able to arrow through a message, but now,
everything speaks. Help! Grin.

I just installed my new update. TB keeps saying custom control and
will not read anything in read or written messages. I can route the
mouse to my position to see what is there or I can use control-numpad
5 to read my current line, but everything produces custom control.
Please help. I am using windows7 homepremium 64-bit and the new WE
7.5.2.

Extra note:
Now, I can arrow through this message, but every key press still says
custom control.
