Hi David and Everyone,

Thanks so much, and yes, I did sellect the Windows version of Ninite. I've used this service before with no problem.

I'm about to disable my antivirus, Vipre and try this. I think there might be a setting in Vipre that is causing this to happen.

I'll let you all know.

Thanks to each and every one of you who sent helpful hints. <smile>

blessings,

Pat Ferguson

Sounds like what I experienced when I first tried the Ninite service.

First of all, When going to the Ninite website, tab a couple of times, till you hit a link that says Windows. Hit Enter here. On the page that now opens, check the checkboxes for the software you want to include in your updater. Then, near the bottom, click on the Download now button, or whatever it reads. (Sorry, I don't have the site up here for the moment.)

When the updater has been downloaded, run it. A few things might be the reason for your updater not working. What you have downloaded, might not be a Windows version, but rather a Linux version. This is why, you want to make sure you are going to download from the Windows page of Ninte. Secondly, your downloaded updater might have got corrupted, so it is always a good idea when the things you are experiencing, to retry building and downloading the updater. Thirdly, make sure your Firewall is not blocking any activity of the updater. Just because you are able to access the website, and download the updater, does not mean that the updater has any access to whichever website it needs, during the updating process. At least, my firewall called for me to accept some access to the net, through the updating process. So please, check your firewall for any blocked attempts.

See if any of this, will prove helpful.

Subject: Window-Eyes and Ninite Installer

Hi Everyone,

I can't seem to get Window-Eyes to talk with any of the Ninite Installers I have selected different programs on their site, and I tell Windows to allow the app to install, and nothing happens after that. When I go to delete the installer, it tells me it is in progress. I have been waiting for one batch of programs to install, since 9:30 this morning. I had Vernon look at the screen, and he can't see where anything is happening, but neither did Window-Eyes give me any status or report on anything.

Any suggesions are greatly appreciated, since I heard about Ninite on this list. <smile>

Thanks much.

Pat Ferguson, loving my new computer with 16GB RAM.
