Well, at the Alabama school for the blind, we have Jaws, Window-eyes, NVDA,
and now that we have one mac, VoiceOver. For a while before a few years ago,
we just had Window-eyes mostly, then we got much copies of jaws, then we got
NVDA on a few computers. The computers that don't have NVDA, which is most,
have Jaws and Window-eyes most likely, but not many people use window-eyes,
most use jaws. Not many use nvda either, but I'm sure that when macs are
more numerous, people may use them more than Windows though, since macs seem
to have greater accessibility than Windows.

You're absolutely right, Sky! Some schools for the blind, like the
California School for the Blind, only teach JAWS. I spoke to a kid who
goes to the school and he said he'd never heard of WindowEyes!
Same thing is true for notetakers. Only the BrailleNote is taught. The
kids don't know anything about the Sense products.
And the abuse? Oh, that happens, too!
We have a blind center here in Santa Rosa which gives people a choice of
WE or the fish. A friend of mine chose WindowEyes.

Subject: Window-Eyes in schools
Hello List. Has GW-Micro ever thought of putting Window-Eyes in the
mainstreme so that people in the public school system can use Window-Eyes
as well as JAWS? The only school I know that Winodww-eyes are being used
at the moment is school for the blind. The only problems I have with the
blind school places is that sometimes you have to board, and it doesn't
really help when you have to board just to get access to Window-Eyes or
things that might not be availible in the public school system, and
Window-Eyes isn't availible in the public school system that I know. The
other problem I am noticing about the schools for the blind is sometimes
you can get abused in these places, especially at night in the dorms, and
again t it doesn't really help. I'll give you guys an example, there
was a school for the blind in Vancouver called the gerokohill school for
the blind, but it had to close down, as there was a lot of abusing going
on in the school. Now we're all in the mainstreme, and the only reader we
get access to is JAWS, but I'd personally love to see Window-Eyes get
intergrated into the mainstreme, because then students can have a choice,
and be able to be close to home, and be able to go to school with the
regulars. Thanks, Sky.
