The problem with these adapters is that they may not work. I had one that sent the wrong scan codes for the arrows when numlock was off. It sent the scan codes for the separate arrows instead of the ones on the keypad; window-eyes wouldn't work with it. Microsoft makes some pretty good keyboards, and their wired one doesn't cost a ton of money.

Another option--if you have a nice older ps2 keyboard, you can get a ps2 to usb
adapter at best buy for about $27. That seems high until you look at the
trashy keyboards that they are selling these days.
I sent a pretty well written explanation to Dell about how important the
numlock key is to any visually impaired customers to have full access to their
computers and, at least, for me, the sales person got her supervisor to agree
and send me a free keyboard replacement. I may not like the keyboard they
send, but, at least, it will have a numpad with a numlock key!

Jeff. I have run into the exact same keyboard issue with my new Dell xps-8500
desktop computer running Windows 8. I can't seem to persuade Dell to send me a
free replacement keyboard with a numb lock key on it. Oh, they have keyboards
with a numnb lock on them, but they want me to pay extra for one that might
suit my needs. A technical support rep told me that I might have to purchase a
keyboard somewhere else. He told me that my keyboard is a kb-113, and he
mentioned a model kb-112. Yet, John Shackles, the sales rep whom I have been
dealing with, says that model number won't come up in his search.

This may not be the same thing, but from Dell, I got a keyboard with no numlock
key. The numpad was always numbers.
They are sending me a free replacement, but I tried to point out to them how
important it is for visually impaired people to have a numlock key to use many
of our screen-reader commands.

Subject: WE Mouse Navigation Keys

Greetings

When helping another Window-Eyes client with setting up a new computer, I was
not able to use the numeric keypad to navigate the mouse. The version of WE is
7.5.4.1.

I was not able to find in the menus where this is turned on and off. In fact
the hotkeys were all set up for their default values. When I used the key
describer function 7 was being reported as the home key not home top left.

The keyboard does have a toggle to change the function keys, but this didn't
change anything.

Vic
