I have started to notice the benefits: flicking through the online version of
my local rag.

Really very snappy and a lot more detail is becoming available.

Landmarks are part of the Accessible rich internet applications (ARIA)
accessibility standard. They're designed to make web page content and
applications more accessible. They're basically just what their name
implies; landmarks for major portions of a page like navigation, main
content, search, etc.
They're intended to give us a quicker way to jump around the main parts
of a page rather than depending on links which may be buried amid
hundreds of other links.

Hth,
Tom
