Doesn't do anything for me either. In my case, control K takes me into AOL
and alt down arrow does absolutely nothing.

HMM, well.
I open Firefox.
Hit Ctrl-K, and immediately Google Search loads.
I try to hit Alt-Down, but that gives me absolutely no reaction.
So, apparently, there might be a setting somewhare for getting to change
the search provider. As I said, Ctrl-K doesn't even leave me the chance of
doing anything, before the Google page loads.
Firefox should be up-to-date, since I updated it only a couple of hours
ago.
Any ideas, of what setting might need to be changed, or if I am missing
out somewhere in the steps outlined below?

All you need to do to change that is, hit ctrl - k
Alt - down arrow and find manage search engine.
It works for the latest version of firefox 19 and in fact, it work for a
while now.

know how this Bing became my default search engine. I've checked in
programs and features to remove it, but it's not listed. It's not listed
