Yes, I found that to be the solution as well. Thanks. I knew, there would be something missing. Smile.

OK, here is a couple more tips for you all, once you have got that drop-down list of providers to work.

Personally, I never saw any benefit of the Bing search service. Still, it showed up as part of the list. So, I scrolled down to the bottom of the list, where it says something like "Manage Search Providers". Then hit Enter. A new list opens, showing you all the search providers currently registered on your system.

Now, I scrolled down to the Bing, and then tabbed over to the Remove-button, and hit Spacebar. That's it, no more Bing provider, to mess up my searches. :) Go ahead, delete the engines you know, you never will need. You don't need them, why have them linger there, only to play the risk that something gets messy, and you will have to go through another hair-pull. Smile.

Secondly, and again a matter of personal taste, I prefer the searching routine of Yahoo. Guess, that is a matter of what you are used to, but i somehow feel the Yahoo screen to be a bit more easy to navigate. Allright, the steps here will be the same, whichever of the providers you decide to go for.

Since Yahoo is a bit down the list, I would have to enter the drop-down and choose Yahoo every time I want a search. That would mean a few extra steps - several times a day, in some cases. But see, there is a way around it. While you are in the "Manage Search Providers" screen, choose the provider you want to be the MAIN provider for you. Then tab over to the Up-button, and hit spacebar, and the provider will be moved one position up in the list. Repeat this, till your provider is at top of the list. Then close the manager. Try go back to Firefox, and hit Ctrl-K. It now should say "Search Yahoo" - or whichever provider you chose. Enter your search term, and hit Enter. There you go. Smile.

Should you now, want the cleanest screen for your daily activities in Firefox, you can go back to the View-menu, then Toolbars, and then hitting Enter on the Navigation. This will uncheck it,and you are back where we started out, without all that clutter on top of your Firefox screen. The Ctrl-K, now will take you directly to the screen of your new search provider, and you will have to find the edit box there, for filling in your query. But, at least, you have changed the standard search provider of your Firefox, and you still have got a clutterless screen when working in Firefox. Actually, my Firefox is set to show no toolbars at all, which I prefer, since I then don't have to pass by a load of toolbars, every time I use the mousekeys on a website.

Hope some of this would be of help to someone out there.

Yes! Go to view, toolbars, navigation bar. Without this it just opens whatever search engine Firefox is set to use, and not a separate search box.

HMM, well.
I open Firefox.
Hit Ctrl-K, and immediately Google Search loads.
I try to hit Alt-Down, but that gives me absolutely no reaction.

So, apparently, there might be a setting somewhare for getting to change
the search provider. As I said, Ctrl-K doesn't even leave me the chance
of doing anything, before the Google page loads.

Firefox should be up-to-date, since I updated it only a couple of hours
ago.

Any ideas, of what setting might need to be changed, or if I am missing
out somewhere in the steps outlined below?

All you need to do to change that is, hit ctrl - k
Alt - down arrow and find manage search engine.
It works for the latest version of firefox 19 and in fact, it work for a
while now.

At one time in firefox you could hit control K and Google would be the
default search engine. And if I remember correctly by hitting alt down
arrow you could rotor through different search engine in the list. I
don't
know how this Bing became my default search engine. I've checked in
programs and features to remove it, but it's not listed. It's not
listed in
firefox add on's either. Essentially I need to know how I can get
accessible Google to open when I hit control K instead of Bing.
