Chances are, something has been change and I got no idea what it is.
The best is to either send me a screen shot or screen dump and I might be
able to advise further.
Ctrl - k is is a firefox shortcut key, unless something has taken over it.

Doesn't do anything for me either. In my case, control K takes me into AOL 
and alt down arrow does absolutely nothing.
