Here is a Email that Doug at GW sent me regarding Open Office. I
personally have tried all his suggestions and can not get Open Office to
work as he says it does.

I just verified my Open Office 3.3.0 is working with Window-Eyes. By
working I mean
the menus and dialogs along with the text from the word processor. Here
are the
things I believe need to be done:
1) You need to be using a JRE pre 7. I've seen other 7 and greater
JRE's have issues
with the access bridge
2) Make sure you either have the legacy access bridge or the access
bridge supplied
by Window-Eyes installed.
3) For me, on launch some java components get launched. I blocked these
things from
being launched on startup. Prior to that I would use Task manager to
kill anything
Java related.
4) After launching Open office you need to do the following:
Press Alt-T followed by O to get into the Options dialog. Arrow down to
the Accessibility
node and tab to the "Support assistive technology tools" checkbox and
check it.
Then go to the Java tab on the left. This will list all the JRE's that
are registered
on your system. Make sure you have a pre 7 version selected. For me
I'm using a
1.6.0.22 version.
Press OK on the options dialog and restart Open Office.

file menu and then press the right arrow to expand it, open office closes.
Yep, that's right, returns me to the desktop. This is, as far as I can
tell,
only occurring when I am on the main screen where I can select what sort of
document I want to work with.
3. When I have the chance to open up a word document to write text
into, I can't read it.
So, at present, these issues more or less make open office a useless
program. Has anyone else run into these problems? If so, any fixes?
