you don't have to re install. just re assign the line option in the hot
key/cursor menu.
check that it is set to global and not program.

Something is up if Control-Numpad-Center is not reading lines because
that is a global hot key assignment. And yes, there are many hot keys
that are not assigned. But they are generally functions that few users
use. But again, if the global read line hot key isn't assigned then
something is messed up. Perhaps your friend should do a clean installation.
