Exactly Chris. Being interested in other players doesn't mean I'm
panicking about the demise of Winamp. Having access to something
that supports third party plug ins, and is less narrowly commercially
restrictive than Windows Media Player would be a definite asset. And
I agree about DBPoweramp as well, which I used to use, but gave up
for the reasons you specify, although it's a great thing if you can
use it. Would Access Bridge help?
Having only one user friendly flexible player is dangerous, because
the interface of any player under current development can suddenly
become inaccessible, as we've seen with several programmes over the
years, and the days of audio CDs must be numbered.

That said, I would love to have an app that would make Foobar2000
fully accessible. It is one of the best players out there for high
definition music, music mastered at higher quality than standard CD,
like that sold by sites such as HDtracks.com. I collect high def
music both physical media like SACD, DVD-Audio and Blu-Ray audio and
digital files as well, and finding accessible players that support
the digital formats without transcoding them or downmixng them to CD
quality or less can be difficult. It has been a long time since I
tried out WinAmp, so perhaps they have since added support for
higher sample rate and bit depth audio formats either directly or
through plugins, but it did not support them in the past. But even
if they have, it would still be great to have an app for Foobar2000

On the same note, I would also love to have an app to make
dBpoweramp made more accessible. It is probably the best CD ripping
software out there, it has the best secure ripping and error
correction scheme out there and is great for people like me who like
to rip CDs to both MP3 and a lossless format at the same time, but
I've never been able to use it without sighted assistance as the
menus, which I believe are Java based read somewhat like those in
Open Office with Window Eyes reading all of the items over and over
again and no way to tell which item you are on and what setting is selected.

Duyahn has a good point here guys. I think some of you are taking the
sentence, Winamp is going away a bit too literally. The program will
still function for years to come. We've been able to use the program
since 1997 when it first came out in its very early days, and we'll be
able to use it until a version of Windows is released that doesn't
support programs like Winamp. The only thing going away is the website
to download it, and development of the program will stop too, but again
your current instalation and all previous versions will still
work for a long long time to come. So lets all relax and keep enjoying
Winamp as long as it's possible to, which, again will be for a long long
time.

It's too bad those lists don't read, for reasons I don't
