not all the lockups is the fault of window eyes. i lose speech when the
flash player crashes. which is about half the time. both with i e and
firefox 17 extended service.
w e comes back with this by closeing the plug in container or flash utility
for i e and pressing f5 to reload the page.
i lose speech when i have live mail 2012 opened and then open firefox or i e
and alt tab back to check for mail. i have to close live mail and reload it
to get speech back. both of these issues happen with nvda running too. but
not as often.
other things are when useing windows 8.1 w e loses speech all the time
temporarily when in the start screen and in windows explorer. the whole
system is being slowed down by windows 8.1 itself. sometimes i have to wait
about 20 seconds before speech comes back when in a explorer window or start
screen.
this is with a quad core i5 with 8gb of memory.
i don't have these pauses of speech on the same computer with windows 7
running.

Subject: Re: fed up with lockups

I am experiencing the same frustrating issue and I find myself using the
free opposition more and more. Already on my laptop I am only using the free
opposition. In fact, it is only the Window-Eyes apps that act as golden
handcuffs tying me to Window-Eyes, otherwise I would have moved over to the
free opposition some time ago already. As more and more addons become
available for the free opposition, I can see that happening in the not too
distant future, unless Window-Eyes becomes substantially more stable.
Honestly, they can no longer make the claim of "rock solid stability".

I have been a loyal Window-Eyes user ever since it saw the light of day in
the early '90s, but I am more than casually looking at alternatives now.

I have yet to see the free opposition crash or lose speech. That is what I
would call "rock solid stability".

But the first prize would be that Window-Eyes becomes the good, reliable
program it used to be.

Kind regards

Christo

Ibm fed up and about ready to go to bthe dark sideb to see

is any better.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
