Chris: thanks for the tip I have also become annoyed by the multiple parts download of format four, but hadn’t investigated it. My Audible titles get played on a number of devices, and my knowledge of audible file formats is not as good as it probably should be.
It seems to me also that the audible download manager needs some attention, preferably by Audible itself but if a Window-Eyes app developer can improve the interface that would be progress. The download manager contributes to the clunkiness, and I find that its split-button which assists with setting options sometimes loses focus. Cheers. Vaughan. I never even thought of checking the audio quality setting on my account as I have always used the highest, level 4 when I started and Enhanced once they added that format. While browsing around the page, I discovered that I was now set to Level 4 instead of Enhanced. No idea why this happened as I only use enhanced. Apparently some books require one to use the Enhanced format in order to get the book undivided. Once I changed the setting, I got the book just fine. I don’t know why some titles are limited to Enhanced for this method of downloading and listening, but there you have it. I think it would still be great if GW Micro could investigate ways to make the Audible pages more screen reader friendly. I suspect that the show and hide parts functions are not the only things not available to speech. I may be wrong about this, but I just keep thinking that Audible is a bit clunky and clumsy for screen reader users and could use some real fine tuning. I looked at my audible library, placed myself on the phrase "show parts", routed the mouse to the pc cursor, with the browse mode on and again with it off, no luck. I left clicked with the keyboard left mouse key with browse mode on and off, no luck. I routed to the phrase "show parts", then used the clip movement, both to the left and right, clicked with the keyboard left mouse key, no luck. I did all these things by pressing the actual mouses' left button, no luck. Any help here. I myself don't terribly mind having to download the entire book, but I sure can understand why someone would not want to do that. But the lack of having the choice is what's bothering me. I just bought a couple of books and went to download them. In the past, even though the separate parts of a book were shown, I was able to click download and get the book as a single part. Today, the parts are shown and I am given only the option of downloading a divided book as the separate parts. I truly hate this, to the point that I spent a large amount of time redownloading my entire library when the undivided books became available. Does anyone know of a way to change things so that only undivided versions are shown. I can find text saying ‘show parts’ or something like this, but it is only text, both with the latest IE and Firefox versions. I’ve even tried getting sighted help and they could not find any controls labelled ‘show parts’ or ‘hide parts’ or anything like that. I’ve sent an email to their customer service, but in the past, they haven’t got the best track record with site problems. I was hoping somebody on the list had encountered this issue and figured out how to fix it. I really wish they would just offer a list of library settings and allow a user to customize the library to their preferences. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
