You must have an older version of Thunderbird. I don't find the message
filters in the alt-v and layout section. Do I check classic view or
vertical view?

Hi Albert,
control n
opens a new email
control enter sends the email
alt s
brings you to the subject edit box
here is a few copies of emails I have sent to help Thunderbird users:
I would press alt v
arrow down to layout and enter
then arrow down and check show folders
and I also check quick filter
click ok
now you just tab
and you should hear quick filter, emails, and the current folder.
I would also suggest that you right click on the inbox folder and arrow down
to open in new tab.
Now press control 1 and make sure you are are in the inbox now press control
2 and just arrow down to another folder that you use often.
For example, I have 4 tabs
one for my hotmail, one for my gmail, one for hotmail trash and one for my
gmail trash.
Then I just press control 1 , or control 2, or control 3, or control 4
which brings me to the above mentioned folders.
next copy:
Another suggestion you might try
bring the mouse to the subject of the email then toggle to the cursor with
the minus key on the numpad, which is the top right key on the numpad now
bring the cursor to the sender or which ever heading is important to you.
Now you have a hot key for the subject and the sender by just toggling
between mouse and cursor and pressing numpad 5.
Of course, this will only work if you have no other need for your mouse and
cursor key.
