As for being daunting to uninstall, the very helpful person at Microsoft didn't seem to have much trouble getting rid of it. But then, I assume they're trained, and that may have helped. From what I can recall when I tried to uninstall it myself, you just have to be able to hit that Remove check box or button, which Window Eyes doesn't recognize as a check box, or button, or whatever it was. If you can see that, once you hit that, I think there's not much more to it than that. Incidentally, I should say that I was almost certainly going to remove it anyway, even if GW Micro hadn't recommended it. I couldn't run it. I couldn't seem to access the menus. When I got it removed, I replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems to be completely accessible with my Window Eyes. So my computer is protected, and it's with something I can actually use myself, which feels good.

A quality product? You mean like Norton is a quality product? (BTW, Norton is a pile.)

This is truly tragic. McAfee is included routinely on new PCs and is commonly used in many places of employment because it is a quality product, and works well on networks. This is truly a black eye for Window Eyes. The Window Eyes team should be working day and night on a remedy to this problem rather than advising customers to simply dump McAfee, which is a daunting process, and may not even be possible if you are in a work setting where others determine what software is being used. WE's failure to work with McAfee can actually be a deal breaker for many, and will force them to use a different screen reader.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Removing McAfee anti virus

Just got a new HP desktop running Windows 8, the latest version. After getting Window-eyes installed, I began exploring and found the dreaded McAfee program. I remember seeing a post from the GW staff indicating that McAfee caused many problems and caused some parts of Window-eyes not to function. So what I hope someone will provide is step by step instructions for removing McAfee. I remember that one must have sighted help to accomplish this. So I don't want to request help until I know exactly how to remove McAfee. My old XP box has sure come in handy.

Thanks in advance. Need help as soon as possible. Thanks.
