Actually the name apps maid more scène, then scripts. A script really doesn't have a user interface it is designed to look for information and act on that information. An app is a small program that is designed using a full-fledged programing Language, or a scripting language. It has it's own user interface and is built around a tool kit. This is a better description of what is being done with window-eyes then scripts. Not only that but people actually started making independent programs using the window-eyes object model and tool kits. Thus the name app makes more sense describing better what is actually going on.
