Finding good microphones is very confusing.
Depending on how much you want to spend, The Olympus DS-40 is a great little
digital recorder
that comes with a stereo microphone.
It has 512 mb of memory, and on the next to highest quality stereo setting,
you would have about 17
hours of recording before you'd fill it up and need to move some files onto
a computer.
It records in WMA format.
They cost around $150 to $175.
It is in the series of Olympus digital recorders that have a voice guidance
system, so are
reasonably accessible.
The DS-50 costs about $250 and has 1 GB of memory, so double the recording
time.
I'm sure you can find them on line, and probably through Blind Bargains.
Enjoy the trip. Many of the Cathedrals have a wooden scale model for
visually impaired visitors
that really gives you a good sense of the size and shape. I've been to
Canterbury, YORKMINSTER and
Durham, all of which have the models. I didn't get to Coventry
unfortunately.
Also, I do about a 25 minute walk-through of the Olympus DS-40 on my web
site:

Ok I went up on the Church ebay store and saw all kinds of mics for mini

I am totally confused.

Hello Stacey. As others have mentioned, currently if you want to use
external microphone you will get the best results with a preamp and
stereo mic.
I have a Church-Audio set which I purchased for around $100 but it's
worth it to me because of the types of recordings I do. I think there
are some external microphones out on the market with built-in preamp and
they might be cheaper. Depends on what you want of course. I'll have my
Church-Audio and preamp set with me at the ACB convention this year.
Many thanks.

Hi all,
Can you record with the voice snese using an external microphone?
If so, How? What kind of mic would I need and what settings should I
use?
I tried with a stereo mic and a mono mic with line in turned on but had
know luck. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere.
Thanks a lot.
