Hi. There are two types of Church-audio microphones. I don't have the model numbers, but they all have 1/8 inch jacks. The one type are regular and are what my wife calls the cheer leader pom poms because of the way they look. The other ones are the more discrete microphones which look like a pen. In fact, actual pen casings are used for them.

The preamp is a small box about the size of a pack of cigarettes and has 2 female 1/8 inch jacks. One is for the patch cord going from it to the line in source and the other is to connect the microphones to.

I will tell everyone now that the equipment looks on the cheaper side, but that is only because Mr. Church uses high-grade electronics on the inside and does not spend your money on making the equipment look nice and splendorous on the outside. So because of this, if you order a preamp, you will see that the box and the power and amp switches are the basic kind which anyone can find from a basic electronic parts supplier, but it's the goods inside which really count.

As a test, I stood about 30 feet away from a passing steam train and recorded it as it passed by. The preamp was set to low because I knew how loud it would get. The recording was beautiful, crisp, clear and the correct ambiance was picked up flawlessly with this setup. By the way, even at 30 feet, the ground shook quite a bit and it felt like I was much closer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Raul

Would you please be so kind as to give us the Church Audio microphone/pre-amp combo model number.

Does the pre-amp jack fit the VoiceSense microphone jack?

Highly appreciated thanks.

Hello Stacey. As others have mentioned, currently if you want to use external microphone you will get the best results with a preamp and stereo mic.

I have a Church-Audio set which I purchased for around $100 but it's worth it to me because of the types of recordings I do. I think there are some external microphones out on the market with built-in preamp and they might be cheaper. Depends on what you want of course. I'll have my Church-Audio and preamp set with me at the ACB convention this year.

Many thanks.

Hi all,
Can you record with the voice snese using an external microphone?
If so, How? What kind of mic would I need and what settings should I use? I tried with a stereo mic and a mono mic with line in turned on but had know luck. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere.
Thanks a lot.
