I want to avoid the u-chord, though, and just hit, say,
1-2-3-5-6-8 with nothing special, maybe hitting space with the
combo, but no extra keystroke just to enter an 8-dot character.

It's true we can't do 8-dot braille, but symbols like brackets
(u-chord dots 246, u-chord dots 12456) and braces (dots 246,
12456) can easily be generated in ASCII mode. Unfortunately, it
is impossible to generate characters above ASCII 128 through the
keyboard. Likewise, control characters cannot be keyed in
either.

I love 8 dot braille. In fact, one of my biggest reservations
about the bsp is that it does not have that option for writing
in, only reading. I do a lot of code on my notetaker, and
things
like brackets and braces are very important, but they are 8 dot
characters, not 6 dot, so writingthem will be a big pain!

Yes, it does take getting used to. Many people use 8 dot
Braille. I tried it, but couldn't really get the hang of it. I
guess I could, if I needed to. I had a hard time remembering
that the Backspace key was also a dot 7, and the Enter key a dot
8. I'm glad you have a BSP, however. Again, I wish you could
have gotten the Qwerty, if that's what you're used to. Should I
tell you, "the older we get", but I think basically, that applies
to me, smile.

Yes, I hadn't considered that just about every device I can think
of has the
enter key on the right, thanks.
I like the braille keyboard actually, though as I mentioned it
takes a bit
of adjusting when going from one format to the other.
